Horror Geniuses

There has been so many great horror movies over the decades some of these classics include, The Mist, The Signing, Dawn of The Dead, A Nightmare on Elm Street and many others. There are various articles and television series dedicated to great horror movies. I have written one myself titled, Best Horror Movies Ever Made but how about the men behind the movies? Often, we here about or watch the movies without knowing their origins. Therefore, this hub will be dedicated to these Masters of Horror. It will provide more insight into who they are, what movies they created and why they are considered Masters of Horror.

You cannot create a list about the Masters of Horror without talking about one of the original king, Alfred Hitchcock. This man is a pioneer who created horror suspense thrillers before it was popular to do so. If you were to ask some of the modern Masters of Horror where they found there inspiration? Chances are, they will reference Alfred Hitchcock. He was indeed the master of shocking endings and mysterious movie plots. His career spanned for over half a century, during that time he created several classics. Some of these classics include Vertigo, Psycho and The Birds. Hitchcock was also famous for narrating his own films. Alfred Hitchcock died in 1980 but his legacy definitely lives on as he is considered one of the most influential film makers of all times. That is why Alfred Hitchcock is certainly an original Master of Horror.

There is only one word that can describe this next Master of Horror, "brilliant." Rod Serling is the creater of the classic television series, The Twilight Zone, a show that was leap years ahead of its time. The show was created in 1959 however, it featured messages and plots that even today's viewers could relate to. Rod Serling had a different way of terrifying audiences then the rest of the Masters of Horror. His stories were terrifying because they were about real life situations. Horrible dilemmas that could actually occur such as, nuclear weapons, wars and Apocalypse. The show had some mind blowing science fiction plots, as well. Like Hicthcock, Serling was a pioneer, whose influence can be seen in modern horror movies. Thus, Rod Serling is undoubtedly an original Master of Horror.

If you are talking about horror pioneers the list would not be complete without George A. Romero. George A. Romero is the director of the first zombie movie ever created, Night of The Living Dead. Night of the Living Dead was groundbreaking for two reasons, the main character of the film was African American, which was unheard of in 1968. In addition, flesh eating walking dead monsters was something that audiences had never seen before 1968. Creating a movie like this took guts and Romero was courageous enough to except the challenge. The movie became so successful that it inspired a chain of films including, Dawn of The Dead, Day of The Dead and Diary of The Dead. He even inspired a television series, The Walking Dead. Romero is also credited for making other horror classics including, The Crazies, Creepshow, and Martin. For these reasons, George A. Romero is a groundbreaking Master of Horror.

Most of us have heard about horror classics such as, The Thing, Halloween, The Fog and Christine. But did you know that all of these great horror films were created by the same person. John Carpenter created all of these horror classics, he is a writer, producer, director and an actor. John Carpenter wears many hats and wears them well. Carpenter started his career in 1962 when be begin to make short films. In 1970 he was honored with an academy award for best live action short subjects. In addition to making great horror films, Carpenter also created classics such as, Assault on Prescient 13, Escape From New York, and In The Mouth of Madness among other great movies. However, it is his contribution to the horror industry that landed him on this list. Carpenter is so recognized in the horror industry that his classic, The Fog was remade in 2005 and a prequel to The Thing was released as in recently as 2011. For these reasons, John Carpenter is definitely considered to be a Master of Horror.

The Last House on The Left, The Hills Have Eyes, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Serpent and The Rainbow and Scream all have two things in common, first they were all original horror classics. Second, they were all created by Master of Horror, Wes Craven. Craven has had hits and misses throughout his career. He has found box-office success as well as, box-office failures. However, when Craven hits it, he hits it out of the park, delivering some of the best horror movies ever made. Even tough Wes has made some critical movie mistakes, He has also made major contributions to the horror genre. Consequently, Wes Craven is a modern Master of Horror.

The Greatest Master of Horror

The greatest Master of Horror to ever live is not a movie director or producer, he is a writer who has been described as the Master of Suspense. In case you haven't figured it out yet, I am talking about Stephen King. The genius, the man, the master mind, the God of the horror industry. Why does Stephen King hold the title for the undisputed Master of Horror? For starters, there has been nearly 90 films based on his novels. If that isn't enough, horror classics such as, The Shining, It, Carrie, Cujo, Pet Sematary, Misery, Creepshow, The Mist, Salem's Lot and Christine are all based on his novels. King's contribution to the horror genre is so great that the horror industry, as we know it, would not exist if it was not for his great novels. In fact, some of the other Masters of Horror in this list have made movies based on his books. Stephen King has been terrifying audiences, captivating critics and traumatizing readers for over 30 years. That is why Stephen King is the number one Master of Horror.
